My night is colored headache gray

I'm still wrestling with sleep. My pain management doctor has switched me from hydromorphone to oxycodone at night. I fear that the pain meds are still acting as a stimulant, though.

I've also stopped taking clonazapam due to possible drug interactions. In its place, I've been prescribed a very small dose of trazodone. Trazodone is a tetracyclic antidepressant that is also used to treat insomnia. Because, apparently, drowsiness is a common side effect. I am starting the trazodone tonight.

I very much hope it works, because I'm like the walking dead here. I've been able to get maybe six hours of sleep in the last two days, and I'm exhausted. Amusingly enough, I've just started the new Charlie Huston novel, Sleepless, a nice little post-apocalyptic story about a plague that prevents people from sleeping.

I am aware of the irony. Thank you.

  1. I'm keeping tabs on you. I hope you start getting better soon. The bicillin has helped me a TON and even thought I am not 100%, I am no longer bed ridden & I am able to leave my house & actually "live". :)

  2. trazadone...I am gonna ask if I can try that...or not; who needs sleep, according to Bon Jovi?

  3. I take Trazodone - 75mg at bedtime,
    Xanax - 1/2 of a .5mg pill, and
1/2 of an 10mg Ambien pill. This combo has been what finally turned the corner for me. It's such a tiny amount of each thing, but it helps. Most of the time now I don't need the Ambien. I just use it if it's been an hour and I haven't gone to sleep. I also take 3 mg of melatonin if I'm up past eleven just to try to keep my sleep cycle in the right part of the clock. Trazodone is my friend ;-)

  4. I am sending high vibration thoughts to you on your road to healing. I found this site through your Vegan Ice Cream site. Hadn't been there for quite some time and wasn't aware you had been struggling with this terrible disease. Seems like you are doing all the right things to find wellness...and thought I would throw in a couple more. I was unable to read all the posts so if you have already explored these, I apologize for the repetition.

This is used very effectively to address pain:
